English learners give too much importance to mistakes they make when using prepositions, here it is an argue reading in favor of them.
Prepositions in English are highly idiomatic and particularly important for a well-created sentence. In addition, according to the Cambridge Dictionary prepositions are used to show a relationship in space or time or a logical relationship between two or more people, places or things. Although, English learners use to feel unconfident using them because most English prepositions can have many meanings. Moreover, there are only 29 prepositions in Portuguese against 150 in English, a fact that scares Brazilian students.
A preposition is a word or group of words used before a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase to show direction, time, place, location… or to introduce an object. As a result of their variety of uses, they act as vital markers of a sentence and highlight special relationships, such as the difference between saying “I am at the bank” and “I am i
n the bank. Since “at” will probably mean in the front of the bank and “in” will represent inside.
In short, using proper prepositions provides the link between parts of a sentence that allows you to share your information more precisely and professionally. Therefore, advanced students must understand them in order to be able to structure proper sentences.
